As a transit nerd, when I first moved to the DMV area I began a fantasy design of the Washington Metrorail system just for a fun side project. I shared it on a transit map subreddit and pretty much didn’t think about it again.

A year and a half later, it was re-posted to the Washington DC subreddit by another user, where it received hundreds of comments and thousands of upvotes before being retweeted by Matt Ford, a staff writer at The New Republic. From there it blew up, where all throughout the week of May 24th, 2021 it was reposted and retweeted by Washington meme accounts on Twitter and Instagram before being featured in an article on WTOP, one of the DMV’s largest news websites.

Must have been a slow news day.
